Media-Induced Migraines
Friend:
Subject: did you see this? http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/03/opinion/03krug.html but of course the New York Times is just a puppet of the liberal elite.
Me:
No, but Krugman as usual is good at crystallizing and articulating what is in every Democrat's heart right now. Last night at the gym I suddenly realized that the Republicans, via Ridge, had fomented another terrorist crisis to diffuse any would-be "bounce" from the Convention and a successful acceptance speech. I'm sure we will not see a similar warning during the Republican Convention.
And lo and behold, late last night the Times revealed that the information behind the warnings was years' old and the bit about blueprints for "test runs" was some horse shit generated by officials in New Jersey. When are people going to get it - that this administration will do anything to hang on to their power with all the weapons in their arsenal, even if that means destroying the democracy they allegedly hold so dear.
I don't know about you, but all the lying, the transparent hypocrisy, the rage masquerading as "honest debate," is starting to wear me down, to exhaust me in the most fundamental, brutal way. I'm beginning to think that apathy (like a form of intellectual suicide for the political activist, right?) is the answer. What else can we do with this dull pain, this loathsome ache?
Friend:
I agree with everything you said. And what makes it worse is that "the truth is out there" and easily accessible. It makes them, the media and those in the White House, getting away with the lies that much more egregious.
****************************************This conversation gave me an idea to start a new blog with another compatriot in arms (I might as well make use of the language of war so carelessly bandied about these days). Let's call this blog "Dialogue with the Devil's Advocate." More on this later...
